Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a new action role-playing game released on October 31, 2024. This is the much-awaited sequel to the 2014-released Dragon Age: Inquisition, which was developed by BioWare and released under the banners of Electronic Arts. This new Dragon Age title takes place ten years after the events of 2014's Inquisition, where Solas is taring down the Veil to bring demons to the world. The game follows the protagonist Rook, a new Inquisition recruit, who must stop Solace from finishing his ritual to tear the Veil.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gameplay
BioWare introduced some significant changes to the Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay. In the previous games, the player choices from the past titles are imported via save files or the web application Dragon Age Keep. They would only need to select three choices that they made in 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition, as the events of previous games don't affect The Veilguard significantly.
The game will feature a robust character creator, where players will decide their protagonist's appearance, lineage, and fighting class. There are four lineage options for players to choose from - Human, Qunari, Dwarf, and Elf lineages. As for the fighting classes, they would have the options of Warrior, Mage, and Rogue. Each class has two different weapon types and unique abilities for players to select between and create a distinct combat style.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has the classic RPG progression system, so players would have to keep leveling up their character and party members to get stronger. The protagonist and his companions will have their own skill trees. Players will be able to romance with in-game characters, but they can romance with characters of any gender.
The combat system also got noticeable changes. The Veilguard features a real-time action-based combat system rather than the tactical strategic approach in past Dragon Age titles. However, the new game still features the pause-and-play mechanic from Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Characters
Dragon Age: The Veilguard features a new protagonist called Rook. Players would not only select their in-game character's appearance and class but also their backstory. Moreover, players would be uniting seven companion characters: The Scout, Neve: The Detective, Emmrich: The Necromancer, Taash: The Dragon Hunter, Davrin: The Warden, Bellara: The Veil Jumper, and Lucanis: The Mage Killer.
Players can form a party of two with any of the seven companions. None of them feel generic, as each has their own histories and unique skills. Players must deepen their relationships with companions and the choices they make in their story will affect how they grow or develop new abilities.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Platforms
This action role-playing game is available on multiple platforms: PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S. However, there are no plans to release this title on last-generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
