The Coca-Cola 600 is one of the biggest events on the NASCAR calendar. The race is an extreme combination of speed and duration taking drivers to their limits. It is a part of the prestigious “Crown Jewel” races of NASCAR and the only race that runs for 600 miles and has four stages.

The Coca-Cola 600 is an event every NASCAR driver wishes to conquer. The event is a test of their will-power and stamina as it extends more than any other race in NASCAR. The Coca-Cola 600 is as beautiful as it is tiring however, the 600-mile spectacle of a race transitions vividly from afternoon to dusk. The transition is difficult for the drivers and a moment of pleasure for the audience.

The Coca-Cola 600 will be the end of NASCAR's May schedule. It will be preceded by the NASCAR All Star Races which are an opportunity for the drivers to showcase their talent at the North Wilkesboro Speedway.

These races will remain a s feature races and won’t award any championship or playoffs points to the drivers. The Coca-Cola 600 has been a premier event in NASCAR attracting one of the largest crowds in motorsports.

It will be held during the same weekend as the IndyCar Indy 500 and the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, giving it more importance on an international level for NASCAR.

Coca-Cola 600 History

Unlike many other races on the NASCAR calendar, the Coca-Cola 600 has remained a 600 mile race throughout its history, never once changing its duration. It started off as the World 600 event, a race NASCAR introduced on the Memorial Day weekend to compete with the Indianapolis 500.

The races never went head to head until 1974 and were held on different days usually. This led to many drivers attempting to run both races, this continued even after the races were scheduled on Sunday although to a lesser degree.
