Mexico Open at VidantaWorld History
The Mexico Open was established in 1944 at Club de Golf Chapultepec near Mexico City. It remained unaffiliated with any tour until 2002 when it was recognized by the Tour de las Américas (TLA). From 2003 to 2006, the event was co-sanctioned by the Challenge Tour. In 2008, it joined the Nationwide Tour (now the Korn Ferry Tour), followed by recognition from PGA Tour Latinoamérica in 2013. Finally, in 2022, it became an official PGA Tour event.
Throughout its 80-year history, the tournament's name has changed multiple times due to sponsorship reasons, though it is often referred to by one of its previous names, Abierto Mexicano de Golf. It has also been held at various courses, with Vidanta Vallarta serving as the host since 2022. However, in 2021, the event took place at Estrella del Mar in Mazatlán, Mexico.
