Matthieu Pavon made history as the first French international to win on the PGA Tour since 1907. The chance arose as a result of his outstanding performance on the DP World Tour last year, which propelled him to the top 10 in the Race to Dubai rankings. Pavon's 11th start resulted in his first victory on American soil.
The French International, on the other hand, had to make 185 outings on his own circuit before winning his maiden title. Ironically, Pavon's only connection to golf was through his mother. As a child, he was introduced to soccer through his family's lengthy history with the sport. But Pavon finally took up golf.
Pavon made his professional debut on the Alps Tour in 2014 and 2015. He won both the Open International de Rebetz in 2014 and the Servizitalia Open in 2015. He advanced to the final stage of the 2015 European Tour Q School and got a chance in the Challenge Tour back in 2016.
Matthieu Pavon Caddie
Matthieu Pavon had Mark 'Woody' Sherwood as his looper at Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open 2024. Before Sherwood, the French Pro had Sebastien Clement, a well-known golf teacher and caddy, in his bag. After working together for a year, Pavon announced that they would be parting ways.
However, when Pavon moved to current bagman Mark 'Woody' Sherwood in September 2023, the Frenchman appeared to discover the missing piece of the puzzle and has since won twice, propelling him into the world's top 100, once on the DP World Tour, and once on the PGA Tour.
Both are exceptional in that Pavon won the Spanish Open last year while Sherwood caddied for only the third time. Pavon won the prestigious Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in only his third complete start on the PGA Tour in 2024, with Englishman Sherwood.
