Golf professional Akshay Bhatia was born on January 31, 2002. The homeschooled golfer, Bhatia, has won 11 amateur titles and has also represented America at the 2017 Junior Presidents Cup, 2018 Junior Ryder Cup, and 2019 Walker Cup, winning all.

Bhatia turned professional at the age of 17, when he was ranked No. 8 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He has his first pro win at the 2021 Biggs Classic on GProTour. He joined the PGA Tour in 2023 and in his rookie season, he won the Barracuda Championship in a playoff against Patrick Rodgers.

In the 2024 Valero Texas Open playoffs, he defeated Denny McCarthy, which was his most recent win and his sixth overall. Bhatia is ranked No. 34 in the Official World Golf Rankings as of June 2024.

Sunil remembers that one morning, Akshay woke him up and asked him how he could become the best golfer in the world. In response, he said he would be a better player and person if he arrived at the club first and left last.

Akshay Bhatia's mother, Renu, worked for a cruise liner ticketing company and managed a golf catering business as well. The birthplace of Renu Bhatia is Hyderabad, Telangana, India. On certain days, she says, they would play two rounds of golf with Akshay and spend nearly 13 hours a day together.
