Arnold Palmer Invitational Tournament purse history
The Arnold Palmer Invitational began as the Florida Citrus Open Invitational in 1966, with a payout of $110,000 and a winner's share of $21,000. Lionel Hebert won the inaugural tournament. The purse increased to $150,000 in 1970 and remained stable for a few years until rising to $200,000 in 1975. From then on, it steadily increased until it reached $1 million in 1993, with the winner receiving $180,000.
Following that, the growth of the purse continued at the previous rate, but with a margin of $200,000 to $500,000 every year. In 2021, the purse reached $9.3 million, and the following year, in 2022, it rocketed to $12 million, with the winner receiving $2.16 million.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational became one of the PGA Tour's signature events in 2023, with a prize of $20 million, including a $3.6 million winner's share. In 2024, the winner's share distribution rate increased from 18% to 20%, resulting in the same purse but a winner's share of $4 million.
