He finished seventh on the money list and became the first Venezuelan to earn a PGA Tour card in 2011.

In January 2011, Jhonattan Vegas won his first PGA Tour event, the Bob Hope Classic, after defeating Tour veterans Bill Haas and Gary Woodland in a sudden death playoff. Therefore, Vegas earned a spot in the Masters as well as a two-year PGA Tour exemption. In his subsequent start, he tied for third at the Farmers Insurance Open and held a share of the lead on the last nine, moving up to 69th on the OWGR. It is noteworthy that Vegas was the first rookie on the PGA Tour to lead the FedEx Cup standings.

In 2011, Vegas emerged victorious in the Banff, Alberta event, but had to settle for second place behind Paul Casey in the annual Telus World Skins Game in Halifax, Nova Scotia in July 2012. He had to take a break from golf immediately after undergoing shoulder surgery. As a result, he began the 2013-14 season on a Medical Extension. However, he was able to complete his medical extension by finishing third at the John Deere Classic, which was a fortunate turn of events.

Vegas finished 153rd in the FedEx Cup and narrowly outside the top 25 in the Web.com Tour Finals in the 2014-15 season, limiting him to past champion status for the 2015-16 PGA Tour season. After several near-wins and collapses over the season, he won his second PGA Tour title at the RBC Canadian Open, regaining full Tour privileges for the 2017-18 season. He was also Venezuela's golf representative at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Vegas successfully defended his title at the RBC Canadian Open on July 30, 2017, earning his third PGA Tour victory. The victory also propelled him to a career-high 48th place in the OWGR.

Venezuelan golfer Jhonattan Vegas made history by becoming the country's first Presidents Cup competitor in 2017 and then representing Venezuela in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021, finishing 16th.
