American golfer John Daly was born on April 28, 1966, and among his peers, he is referred to as "Big John" or "Long John" because of his stance when he drives off the tee. He often made headlines because of his appearance, personal issues and numerous fines and disqualifications. Also, he's the only golfer who has won two majors and has not made an appearance at the Ryder Cup.

He has a total of 19 professional wins, with five on the European Tour and three on the PGA Tour. Daly turned pro in 1987 and won his first professional win at the 1987 Michelob Missouri Open, after which he won three events in 1990 on the South African and Ben Hogan Tours.

Daly's breakthrough came in 1991 when he defeated Bruce Lietzke by three strokes in the PGA Championship; this led to the phrase "zero to hero." He also won the 1995 Open Championship, defeating then-Italian star Costantino Rocca.

His career's downfall began somewhere around 2006, as his performances began dipping; however, he was still involved with a few endorsements; he released two songs, owned a golf course design company, and dabbled in the clothing business as well. His most recent win was at the 2021 PNC Championship with his son, John Daly II, defeating Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie Woods, by two shots.
