Six months after Brendan's birth in 1997, Lise was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. She died at 55 on August 2, 2013, when Wyndham was 19. Brendan shared at the U.S. Open that his mom generally encouraged him with her two-word mantra, "play big," before each competition, based on CNN.
