This match hasn't really sunk in yet! But, we are done with the Super 8s now! The semi-final line-up for T20 World Cup, 2024, is set - South Africa will take on Afghanistan in Trinidad, India will go up against England in Guyana. First up, it will be the Proteas vs the Afghans! That will come to you right here on the early morning of Thursday the 27th of June, Indian Standard Time. Rashid Khan (Afghanistan captain): It's something like a dream for us as a team, making the semi-finals! The belief started to come when we beat New Zealand. I think the only person who had us in his last four for the tournament was Brian Lara, so, we had a chat among ourselves that we can't let his prediction go wrong! We stayed at the crease with bat in hand, we know it wasn't an easy pitch to bat on, so the idea was to bat the overs and get as many runs as we can. That most definitely worked in the end. We were missing the quality in the fast bowling before, but today, our attack is more complete. It's not that they are genuinely fast, but the improvements are definitely there! (On the Gulbadin Naib injury moment) I am clear that the only way we could win was by bowling 20 overs and taking 10 wickets, that was the only way. No other. But he was slightly injured and thankfully, he came back on and picked up an important wicket at an important time. Glad to be in the semi-finals now, and I'm sure people back home are celebrating!
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh captain): As a batting group we made a lot of poor mistakes and that cost us. First six overs, the plan was to go for the qualification. If we lose early wickets, bat normally. Throughout the tournament, we bowled really well. Especially Rishad the new guy came in and did well. Fielding too we did well and took good catches. It can happen but we can't give excuses. Other part, ball comes onto the bat nicely too. So, that is also there.
Naveen ul Haq (Player of the Match, 4/26 in 3.5 overs): I'm really happy that we have got the job done! We have worked really hard for the last few years to get to this stage. We knew that Bangladesh would go hard up front because they had to win within 12.1 overs to qualify, so, the plan was to mix it up and pick up wickets. Thankfully, we were able to do just that at regular intervals! These are games that keep on the edge all the time, you don't know what can happen. One boundary, one catch, one wicket and the complexion of the match changes. But these kinds of wickets are not easy for batting, so we were always in it. Hard work has paid off and we are really delighted to be where we are!

An innings of epic proportion has just come to and end! Three teams were in contention of progressing to the semi-finals. The pendulum swung back and forth. Rain came and played its part. There were boundaries, there were wickets, there were super saves, there were misfields, there was drama all around, but in the end, Australia and Bangladesh are out, Afghanistan are in!
Rain played its first part by quickening the pitch and making it easier to bat. And then, Bangladesh gave the charge very few expected. Litton Das lead that charge, and it brought about quite a few mistakes, both with the ball and in the field. Captaincy too, got affected negatively.
But even then, Afghanistan kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals. What Litton needed was support from the other end, he got some flashes of that support from Soumya Sarkar first and then Towhid Hridoy. There was a decent enough support that came by way of Tanzim Sakib and Taskin Ahmed by hanging in there.
Litton meanwhile brought up his 11th T20I fifty and threatened to single-handedly take Afghanistan out of contention. By the way, Bangladesh's slightly slow batting at the crunch time let it slip out of hand for them when it came to going through to the final four!
Another rain break brought about two things. A seemingly fake injury complaint by Gulbadin Naib when he found out that his team was ahead on the DLS par score and then, a reduction of one over.
But it was cleat at that stage that the only thing stopping Afghanistan from victory and progression to the semis, was Litton Das' resilience! Australia had their hopes pinned on Litton too and he did not disappoint.
But, the lower order could not come up to terms with the quality of the Afghan bowling attack! Rashid Khan took 4 for only 23, Naveen ul Haq finished with figures of 4 for 26 runs, Noor Ahmad gave away only 13 runs in his 4 overs and Gulbadin Naib slipped in 2 overs for only 5 runs, picking up a wicket!
With 8 runs left, Naveen trapped Mustafizur Rahman first ball and even a review could not save the left-hander! After all that happened, after all the ebbs and flows, Afghanistan were victorious!
They jumped with joy, they ran around, they bowed down to god, they cried with joy! And why not? They have just become the new semi-finalists of the T20 World Cup, knocking both Bangladesh and Australia out!
AFGHANISTAN HAVE DONE IT! AFGHANISTAN ARE NOT ONLY WINNERS OF THE MATCH, THEY ARE THROUGH TO THE SEMI-FINALS OF THE WORLD CUP! THE PLAYERS, THE SUPPORT STAFF AND THEIR LOYAL FANS, ALL ARE ECSTATIC! SOME ARE CRYING, SOME ARE JUMPING AROUND WITH JOY AND SOME ARE PRAYING TO GOD! BUT THE FACT IS, THAT THEY HAVE DONE IT!
16.5 Naveen-ul-Haq to Mustafizur Rahman, TRAPPED IN FRONT AND AFGHANISTAN WIN!!!!!!! Length delivery angling in, Mustafizur looks to defend but he misses and gets trapped in front. Huge LBW appeal and he umpire lifts his finger as Afghanistan start their celebrations. We need to hang on, Bangladesh have opted for the DRS! No bat involved and three reds. So, the wicket stands and Afghanistan qualify for the semi-final!

Rashid needs to be in in-field captaining his side, not patrolling some boundary at this stage of the innings! He is a whole-hearted cricketer alright, but he needs to be in the thick of things at this point of time than far away from the action to be honest.
