Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan captain): Cricket is by chance, we put in all the effort we could. Early on, they were a tad lucky. We were looking to restrict them to 320, Klaasen took them past 350 with that innings of his. Khushdil pipped in with some motivational words at the break when we were heading back, someone else said something about 350 being chased against Sri Lanka (340+). Motivation like that and the positivity helped. There was pressure when Agha joined me, but we stopped looking at the scoreboard and focused on building a partnership. Planned for 5 overs each after the 18th over. We had success in some of them, not in others. I was angry (while on the field) but the players insist I get angry upon mistakes on the field. Even if you win you look for improvements, fielding is one of them. Mistakes on the field are criminal against big teams like South Africa.

Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain): "Yeah, definitely. Getting to 350, you back yourself but unfortunately we didn't start well enough. We got a couple of wickets but didn't manage to get the momentum. I think it stayed a good wicket from the first ball. A little bit swing but nothing extreme. It will be tough work for bowlers if these are the wickets we will be playing on. Yeah, wickets are important. Making sure that the batters are scoring off good balls, that is another important thing. In the middle, you are either able to squeeze up dots or take wickets. Yeah, hitting the ball well. Nice to spend time out in the middle. My last proper knock was in the Test series against Pakistan, so good to remove the cobwebs. It was nice to get past 20 today."

Agha Salman: "We knew that this was a good wicket. Wanted to take the game as deep as possible, we targeted every five overs and that worked. To be honest, it is just one of those catches which stuck in my hand. Wanted to contribute in all the three departments. It was a very good pitch in the first innings as well. I don't think the wicket changed much, maybe there was a bit of reverse swing in the first innings. With our bowling, we can defend any total. When he is doing this, you need to know that he is in the game."

For the second time in two games, Pakistan were off to a flyer thanks to openers Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam. It was Babar who got the Karachi crowd going with a couple of silky boundaries in the first over off Lungi Ngidi. Fakhar Zaman went on the charge soon after - he, chanced his luck and the runs kept flowing about for the hosts. The 50-run stand was up for the first wicket halfway into the sixth over, and the start looked promising.

Wiaan Mulder was then handed the ball, and it worked for South Africa straight away. He trapped Babar Azam in front with a skiddy length delivery, Fakhar kept at it, got to 41 but then tried to chase a length delivery on his front foot off Mulder and nicked behind. Saud Shakeel picked out Mulder at deep square off Corbin Bosch in between, and Pakistan were in a bit of soup at the time.

Mohammad Rizwan was then joined by Agha Salman at the crease, and the duo were onto the rebuild job straight away. The required rate began creeping up as the duo took their time to settle in. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi kept things really tight after drinks, there was the odd boundary every now and then, but the lack of rotation in strike was a cause of concern.

Rizwan went on to break the shackles with a six off Maharaj, and brought up his half century two balls after that. Salman, too, began growing in confidence, the running between the wickets turned more intense, the boundary balls came along almost every over, and soon enough, both batters were matching each other's individual scores. The partnership for the fourth wicket kept growing and growing, crossing 200 as both batters brought up their respective hundreds in the same over - the 43rd.

Salman pressed on the accelerator eventually, dragging Pakistan close to a run-a-ball by helping take 16 off the 45th over. Over a run-a-ball soon turned under a run-a-ball, and even though the game went deep, Rizwan and Salman had things covered. Salman brought it down to single figures with a meaty blow over cover, and while he got out on the cusp of a special victory, Pakistan scaled Mt. 353 a few moments later thanks to a first-ball boundary from Tayyab Tahir, booking a place in the final on Friday.
