Nitish Rana (Player of the Match, Rajasthan Royals): I was thinking of maximising the powerplay, as the ball turned after getting slower. Planned on playing the field and not the bowler or the ball. I know I could use the pace. I analysed my batting in the last two games and saw that I was hitting it too hard. This time, I ensured that I placed the ball. The coaches told me to bat at three, it was a tactical move as I was hitting the ball too hard at number 4. The chat with the coaches was to bat for as long as possible. (On him being fixed at number three) Will have to ask Rahul, sir (laughs)

Riyan Parag (captain, Rajasthan Royals): Feels good; took a lot of time. It was only two games, but it felt too long. Felt it was 20 short. I thought we would build up from the 16th over, but we bowled very well. That was the chat - forget the two games and collectively put in the effort. Luckily, I had 7 options, including myself and Rana, and I went with my gut feeling, and it went well. Fielding makes up for the 20 runs we were short. We have been working with the fielding coach, and it paid off

Wanindu Hasaranga (Rajasthan Royals): I tried to do my basics. I tried to bowl at the stumps and at the end I tried to bowl wide. Our batters batted really well in the first innings so we saw how the wicket was behaving. I tried to do the basic things. (Most challenging to bowl to?) Ruturaj Gaikwad I guess because he's a really good player. He plays spin well, he batted really well. Happy that I got him out. The skipper Riyan Parag took a brilliant catch. Hettie was also gun in the field. (On his celebration) In India I love to watch Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil films so I got that from 'Pushpa'. We have a really good bowling attack, especially in the middle, myself and Maheesh. We have different roles to play. We have really good fast-bowlers with the new ball and the death - Jofra, Tushar, Sandeep, they all did really well today. Me and Maheesh have to play different roles, especially Maheesh - sometimes with the new ball and sometimes in the middle.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings captain): Obviously in the powerplay, Nitish batted really well. At the same time we were not proactive knowing that he was going behind square towards the boundary. At the end of the day, it was always about one hit. We gave away maybe 8-10 in the field. That's something we're looking to improve but it's costing us in each and every game. I feel 180 was chaseable. It was still a good wicket if you hit the pockets and time the ball really well. I was really happy at the end of the innings when they finished on 180 (182). After the powerplay they were looking at 210-220 which would have been 20 runs above par but I think 180 was chaseable. Over the years we had Ajinkya batting at 3 and Rayudu taking care of the middle-order. We thought it is better if I come back one step. Rahul Tripathi is known for playing an aggressive role and he can play himself up. That was the thought process. But it's not been much of a difference - I'm getting to bat in the first two or three overs in the first three games (grins). No discussions have happened about me batting at 3. It was discussed at the auction time and I'm convinced about it. I can take risks and rotate strike when needed - that's what you need from a number 3 or 4 batter when you have Shivam who can take risks. Unfortunately we have not been able to get off to a good start but once we get that going, we'll be a really good batting unit. Long flight, not happy to be taking a three-hour flight but lots of positives. Noor obviously is bowling well, Khaleel has bowled well, Jaddu bhai bowled well. I think we're there - it's just not coming together. We need to build pressure. It's not been happening in the last few games but once the fielding comes together and we have momentum we'll be a really good side.

What an absolute thriller we have been treated to! Riyan Parag registers his first win as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals after two tough outings. For CSK, their inability to chase down scores in excess of 180 since 2019 continues to haunt them, costing them another game. A fine effort from them, but alas they fall short.

CSK needed to replicate the sort of powerplay Rajasthan, and to some extent, they were able to replicate after losing Rachin Ravindra in the first over. No initiative was taken by either Rahul Tripathi or Ruturaj Gaikwad as they stayed dormant and failed to take the bowling down. Post the powerplay, Tripathi lost his wicket, but Gaikwad freed his arms and went on and about to attack.

With Gaikwad going great guns and Shivam Dube also having done a fine job at his arrival to the crease in the middle, it looked like CSK would ace the chase. However, they lost wickets in the middle overs and at regular intervals. Hope was still alive, with MS Dhoni walking out to bat as early as number 7 and also getting a few hits out of the middle of the bat. That was countered by Sandeep Sharma, who bowled a brilliant last over and sealed the game for the Rajasthan Royals.

The Rajasthan Royals' bowling attack did a fine job here, and that set them up for a good target defense. Jofra Archer did a fine job, bowling a wicket maiden and conceding only 13 runs in the three overs he sent down today. Sandeep Sharma, who bowled a fine last over, conceded 42 runs but picked up the all-important wicket of MS Dhoni in the last over. The star with the ball, Wanindu Hasaranga, picked up four wickets and, most importantly, pocketed Ruturaj Gaikwad when the CSK skipper was on song.

He did this in 2023 at Chepauk and now, he has held his nerve in Guwahati to arrest a two-game losing run for the Royals. Back of a length with pace off outside the off stump.
