WWE NXT Results, live recap, grades: Another SHOCKING attack on an NXT Superstar! Champs clean up at the NXT Year End Awards ahead of New Year's Evil!

OVERALL GRADE FOR WWE NXT FOR DECEMBER 31, 2024: C.

The Year End Awards were essentially additional awards for the Champions, so they weren't really necessary. The only one that was up for grabs was the Moment of the Year won by Joe Hendry. Even that was nuts since there were 10 nominees. The matches were basic and cared more for narrative advancement (Zaria/Sol issues; Mr. Chase loses his smile again; Fatal Influence attacks Gigi to set up a match for next week). Ava not knowing the rules of the Heritage Cup was a joke since she's the leader of the brand and doesn't know the rules about one of her titles.

The CW drama you didn't want with the brickhouse you DID want . . .

Trick panders to the fans and appreciates the love from the fans. He mentions how he's tuned into the triple threat match where Eddy Thorpe is in it to eat the pin. He says if Oba wasn't beatable then next week's match would be title against title. To be fair, Oba lost in essentially a hardcore match. Williams then mocks Oba by saying "How long you gonna take off after I beat you at New Year's Evil??" Again, Trick comes off more like a heel than a face, at least in my opinion. Thorpe then jumps both men and breaks the award before holding up the title he won't win next week.

Oba stares Mike Rome down before grabbing the award and a mic. He says it doesn't matter who wins the award because it's just a prop for a popularity contest (which is kinda true). The fans don't control anything because he does and he directs the ship. Trick comes out to take his award because no one else was going to win it.

Mike Rome tries to hand out the Male Superstar of the Year Award but Oba Femi cuts him off. Femi should have a chance since he was dominant but Trick Williams has to win everything, so it's not Oba.

A random guy (Kale Dixon) walks up to Mr. Chase backstage to ask when the new semester starts. He says "Don't you know that Chase U is done, son?"

TIme for Oscar to go back to his trashcan . . .

Backstage, Ashante Adonis calls Karmen Petrovic on the phone. He says he wants to spend New Year's Eve with her or be alone. Poor baby man. Nikkita Lyons then walks up to invite him to a party where she totally won't be shaking her booty. He declines and she walks off. Shawn Spears then tries to recruit Izzi Dame again but she rebukes him again. Tony D tells him to back off after so many failed attempts.

Grade: B-.
Hank and Tank have come a long way. In a year or two, Tank Ledger could be a singles Champ. Dupont stood out for his side when Lee wasn't in the ring. Some decent segments but another match with a wonky finish.

Hank tries to fight Igwe and Lee off but they're too much. He goes off the ropes but Lee hits him with a kick. Igwe hits a modified cutter/stunner for the win.
Result - Wes Lee, Tyriek Igwe, and Tyson Dupont defeat Hank Walker, Tank Ledger, and Mr. Chase by pin.

Tyriek and Tyson launch Lee onto Hank's body but he reverses another DDT attempt before tagging in Helmet Man Tank. Tank drops both opponents off the hot tag. He hits a cartwheel before hitting Tyriek with a Lariat. He tags Chase in but Tyriek prevents a move. Chase catches a kick attempt from Igwe. He lands a Russian Leg Sweep and goes for the Chase U Stomp but stops. Chase tags Hank in and then leaves after seeing the Chase U section in the crowd.

Dupont hits an impressive pop-up power slam on Hank but he kicks out at two. Lee knocks Chase off the apron and goes for Tank but he evades the push. Lee then attempts a Tornado DDT move but Hank blocks it.

I get that they're trying to hand out awards but it is mostly pointless since the Superstar of the Year awards go to all the Champions.

Another "can they co-exist situation" for Sol and Zaria.

Dupont and Igwe kick Tank and Hank before the bell. Hank shields Hank from damage in the corner. He tags Mr. Chase in and all three land moves on Igwe. The heels isolate Tank, allowing Lee to come in. Tank hits a pancake move on Lee. Chase then hits a Cannonball on Tyriek and Tyson on the outside as Hank and Tank sandwich Lee between them back in the ring.

Up next is the six-man tag match with Hank, Helmet Boy Tank, and Mr. Chase taking on Wes Lee, Tyriek Igwe, and Tyson Dupont. Chase has only two levels - overhyped sweater swearing man or disheveled, defeated homeless cosplayer.

Perez wins the award as she should have. She recounts her 2024 by saying she saw the light and showed that no one in NXT is on her level. Perez also mentions her "pipe bomb" on CM Punk, but it was more of a pipe spark. She then adds that she attracted a lot of international talent and other stars like Jordynne Grace, Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, and Zaria.

Up next is the NXT Female Athlete of the Year. It should really only be one woman but the nominees are:

Hank and Tank try to recruit Mr. Chase to be their tag partner despite his tough last few months. He looks homeless again.

Some of the WWE ID talent are shown in the front row. I don't know many of them but Zayda Steel is ready for NXT. She's done great in MLW and other smaller promotions.

Grade: C.
The women had some decent chemistry but had some weird spots. Sol played her role well and Dame did as well. It was just a clunky match which, again, seemed solely to further dissent between Zaria and Ruca.

Ruca battles back with a few kicks and a springboard shoulderblock. She goes for a springboard splash but Dame gets her knees up. Izzi goes for a move but Sol counters into a facebuster. Izzi rolls out of the ring near Zaria/ She goes for a moonsault but Dame pulls Zaria into the line of fire. Dame tosses Sol back into the ring for a Spinebuster and the win.
Result - Izzi Dame defeats Sol Ruca by pin.

Izzi overpowers Sol early on. Sol almost reverses her fortunes with a roll up but Dame kicks out. Shawn Spears watches the match from the random arena pulpit. Dame suplexes Sol for a near fall as Zaria comes out to cheer Ruca on.

Jacy Jayne: "Gigi just . . . um. . slipped"

The winners of course are Nathan Frazer and Axiom as it should have been. They're one of the best teams in wrestling and were actually Champs. They go over their journey as Champs in 2024. OTM interrupts them to say they're gonna win the titles. Zaria and Sol Ruca then talk briefly ahead of Sol's match with Izzi Dame.

Ava has Lexis King and Charlie Dempsey in her office to take the Heritage Cup away from King. She says she was "researching the rules" and that since the cup changed hands in sketchy ways last week, they'll face off next week with a Sudden fall determining the winner. Shouldn't she already know the rules since it falls under her jurisdiction??

Grade for Triple Threat Match: C+.
There were some good spots and Lash and Gigi stood out. Kayden and Katana have exciting moves but shouldn't always get the upper hand when they're in the ring. Jakara almost missed her dropkick off the top and Shotzi unfortunately missed her suicide dive terribly. Slow down on some of these unnecessary flashy moves and focus more on technical skills.

After the win, the Unholy Union shows up on the big screen because everyone seems to want a tag title match. It's weird that Shotzi and Gigi lost in their first match as a team but I guess the bigger angle was with Fatal Influence. Backstage, Lola Vice and Stephanie Vaquer are arguing because of the accident in the ring earlier in the night. Kelani Jordan walks over to say that they deserved what happened because they tried to help her last week. Vaquer then shoves Jordan and Vice tries to break it up. Cora Jade watches everything from afar, admiring her handwork. Ava walks over to say she has to face all three women next week with the winner getting a shot at Fallon Henley.

Luckily, Shotzi gets back up as Lash sends Jakara off her shoulders and onto a few opponents on the outside. As predicted, Fatal Influence shows up on the opposite apron to distract the ref. Jacy then pushes Gigi off the top rope. Meta Four hits a tandem cutter move to pick up the win.
Result - Lash Legend/Jakara Jackson defeat Gigi Dolin/Shotzi and Kayden Carter/Katana Chance by pin.

Jakara goes to the top after tagging in. She barely hits a Missile Dropkick as she may have slipped on the way down. Shotzi tags in and is left with Jakara. She pushes Lash off the apron before she and Gigi hit a combo neckbreaker. Chance breaks up the pin. Gigi knocks Chance off the apron. Shotzi goes for a Suicide Dive but her feet get stuck in the ropes. She badly hits the floor face first. Hopefully she's okay.

Gigi and Lash battle off the break. She hits a series of strikes on Lash to ground the larger opponent. Lash fights back but sends Dolin to the little ladies' corner. Kayden tags in and sets Lash up for the Keg Stand, which they hit. Shotzi and Jakara break up the pin. Shouldn't Fatal Influence be showing up to interfere???

Carter tags in and hits a kick to send Shotzi out of the ring. Chance hits a splash on the outside before both land flipping moves to the outside. They surprisingly don't dance when the time is right, instead staring at their opponents.

Carter hits a dropkick on Lash before making the tag to Lash. They hit some tandem offense, but Chance barely gets a one-count because she weighs 80 pounds. Shotzi tags in and hits a facebuster on Lash. Lash moves to her corner, and Jackson tags in. She hits some slow punches and a facebuster for two. Gigi then gets the tag. She and Shotzi hit a kick and a cannonball on Jackson. Shotzi locks in a Texas Cloverleaf.

Gigi starts with Kayden. Kayden walks over Gigi's back and then dances. She lands a kick and then dances again. Lash tags in and immediately bodyslams the smaller Carter. She hits a short splash for two.

Up next is Gigi Dolin/Shotzi taking on Kayden Carter/Katana Chance and Lash Legend/Jakara Jackson.

Looks like Hank and Tank need to find a third person for a six-ma tag with Tyrikek, Tyson, and Wes Lee.

Tyriek and Tyson are mad that they weren't in the four-team match last week. Shawn Spears comes in to try and manipulate them. Wes Lee walks in to tell them that they don't need him. Spears walks off as if someone else caught his eye.

After the match, All Ego continues the assault on Alexander. He slams his hand under the cover of a tool box under the ropes. Backstage, Hank and Tank argue with Tyriek and Tyson.

Grade: B-.
Too much of the match happened during the ad break but the contest was mostly to sell how deranged Page is becoming. They could have done more but Page winning without hitting the Ego's Edge was strange.

Ceddy hits a kick off the ropes to regain control of the match. He goes for a Gutbuster but Page counters. Alexander hits a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Page blasts Ceddy with a big boot to the face. He hits a rolling cutter to pick up the win.
Result - Ethan Page defeats Cedric Alexander by pin.

Both stars trade some offense until Ceddy hits a Suicide Dive on Page on the outside. Ceddy goes for a springboard move off the middle rope, but All Ego catches him with a modified Codebreaker for a two-count. Ah okay. Half the crowd is chanting for All Ego. He must be doing something right.

Alexander stomps on Page in the ring back from commercial. The crowd is chanting something that's hard to understand. So glad to be back in the PC.

They fight out to the ring but officials try to break it up. It was supposed to happen later but it's gonna happen now instead. Over after the commercial break. Shoulda said that first.
