Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey is an American football running back, currently playing for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected 8th overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2017 NFL Draft after a standout college career at Stanford. He was traded to the 49ers in the middle of the 2022-23 NFL Season.

McCaffrey made an immediate impact in his rookie season by racking up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns on his way to making the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Over the next few seasons, McCaffrey established himself as one of the most versatile and dangerous offensive weapons in the league. His best year came in 2019 when he became just the third player in NFL history to both run and receive for over 1,000 yards in the same season, joining an exclusive club with Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk. McCaffrey repeated that feat in the 2023-24 NFL season, leading the league with 1,459 rushing yards, 339 touches, over 2000 scrimmage yards, and 21 touchdowns. CMC also tied a record for the most consecutive regular-season NFL games with a TD, at 17 games.

For his historic numbers, CMC has twice been named First-team All-Pro (2019, 2023) and has been invited to 3 Pro Bowl Games (2019, 2022, 2023). He was also awarded the 2023 PFWA Offensive Player of the Year for his feats. Through his first seven seasons in the NFL, he has cemented his place as one of the top dual-threat backs in the game today.

McCaffrey previously had made it as far as the NFC Championship Game in the playoffs in 2022, where the 49ers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 31-7 after their QB Brock Purdy was injured. Their designated QB Josh Johnson was also injured at the same time.

Christian McCaffrey Playoff Appearances

Christian McCaffrey has appeared thrice in the playoffs, as of February 2024. His first appearance was in the postseason of the 2017-18 NFL Season, with the Carolina Panthers in his rookie season. In his sole playoff game of that campaign, he recorded 117 scrimmage yards and 1 touchdown in a narrow 31-26 loss to the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card game.

CMC’s next playoff experience came in the 2022 NFL postseason with the San Francisco 49ers. Entering the playoffs as the 2nd seed, the 49ers made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game, but lost out to the Philadelphia Eagles agonizingly, as QB Brock Purdy was injured early in the game. The designated backup QB, Josh Johnson, was also injured in the same game. For CMC personally though, it was a brilliant postseason display as he recorded 299 scrimmage yards and 3 TDs in just 3 post-season games.

His last playoff appearance was in the 2023 NFL postseason, once again with the 49ers, and it was even better than his 2022 run. Being the 1st seed, the 49ers got a bye on the Wildcard round weekend. In just 2 games, CMC racked up 260 scrimmage yards and scored 4 crucial TDs, leading the 49ers to comeback wins against the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round and against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game. However, he and the 49ers fell short at the final hurdle losing to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.
