Drake Maye was the quarterback for the New England Patriots of the NFL as of 2024. He was selected by the Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft. He started his college football career in 2021 and spent three seasons with the Tar Heels before moving on to commit to the 2024 NFL draft. In his sophomore season with UNC, Maye exploded from the field as he had 4321 passing yards, completed 342 of his 517 pass attempts, had 38 touchdowns, and also had 698 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. In his junior year at UNC in 2023, he went on to have another outstanding season with 3608 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, completing 269 passes of his 425 while also registering 449 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
Maye finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2022. Despite his outstanding performances in these three seasons, Tar Heels struggled to consistently win, which might have hurt his chances at the Heisman Trophy. Regardless, he has a bunch of individual accomplishments and some of them include ACC Player of the Year in 2022, ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, ACC Rookie of the Year in 2022, First-team All-ACC in 2022, and Second-team All-ACC in 2023.
