The Houston Roughnecks are a football team who compete in the Xtreme Football League (XFL). The Houston Roughnecks was founded by Vince McMahon in 2018 as part of the first season of the XFL. The team was suspended in 2020 following the cancellation of the 2020 XFL. However, the Houston Roughnecks were restored in 2023 to play in the 2023 XFL season. The Roughnecks had an undefeated season in the 2020 edition of the XFL till it was cancelled. The team returned for the 2023 XFL season with a new logo and now competes in the South division of the XFL.
Location, Stadium, and Team Colors
The Houston Roughnecks are based out of Houston, Texas. They became the second football team based out of Houston, Texas with the NFL team Houston Texans also based out of the city. The Houston Roughnecks have two rivals in the XFL with the other two Texan teams being the Dallas Renegades and the newly added San Antonio Brahmas.
The John O’Quinn Field at TDECU Stadium
The team’s home stadium is the John O’Quinn Field at TDECU Stadium. It is the official stadium of the University of Houston. The stadium also hosts the Houston Cougars college football team of the NCAA. The TDECU stadium was revamped in 2013 costing $128 million. The stadium can host up to 40,000 people.
The Houston Roughnecks have their team colors set in red, navy blue and gray. All jerseys and helmets for the Houston Roughnecks are designed and manufactured by Under Armour.
