James Cook is an American football player who plays as the running back for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. The Bills selected Cook with the 63rd overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The 2023 campaign proved to be a turning point in his career, marked by remarkable performances that earned him accolades. James went on to amass more than 1,550 total yards through ground and air while getting into the endzone six times. He made the 2023 Pro Bowl roster. He accumulated 507 rushing yards and 180 receiving yards in his rookie season. Hailing from Miami, Florida, Cook attended Miami Central Senior High School and played high school football there. After concluding his senior football season, he transferred to Miami Northwestern Senior High School for his final semester of high school. He was a high-rated recruit, initially committing to Florida State. However, he changed his decision and chose to play college football at the University of Georgia. He concluded his collegiate career with over 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns on 230 carries and caught 67 passes for 730 yards and six touchdowns. Additionally, he won the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship during his time at Georgia. He signed a rookie four-year contract with the Bills in 2022, worth $5,832,057. It included a signing bonus of $1,421,496, a guaranteed amount of $2,391,590, and an average annual salary of $1,458,014.

Cook is the son of James Cook Sr. and Varondria White. The couple has six children together, including three sons and three daughters. After the sudden demise of his father, his mother and siblings have stood by his side, channeling strength and encouraging him to fulfill his dreams of entering the NFL.
