After attending Wesleyan School, he went to Alpharetta High School and played high school football for the Alpharetta Raiders football team.

Following his high school years, he committed to playing college football at the University of Tennessee. During his time with the team, he helped Tennessee to achieve the 9-4 record consecutively in 2015 and 2016. Additionally, Tennessee achieved a total of 18 wins with Dobbs as the quarterback.

After concluding his outstanding collegiate career, Dobbs was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Subsequently, he became a part of more than six teams before finally finding his place with the Minnesota Vikings. Despite being a backup for most of the organizations, he never failed to impress the spectators.
