Junior Colson (born December 6, 2002) is a Haitian-American football linebacker. Colson was born in Haiti and came to the United States at the age of nine. He played collegiate football at the University of Michigan, where he won the national title and Lott Trophy in 2023. Colson was born in Mirebalais, Haiti. His father died when he was seven years old, and he was placed in an orphanage in Port-au-Prince run by his uncle.
At the age of eight, he met Americans Steve and Melanie Colson, who were on a church trip to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. The Colsons adopted him, and following a protracted adoption and immigration process, he relocated to Tennessee in May 2012, at the age of nine.
He recounted that when he arrived at the airport in the United States, the first thing he noticed was a Michigan cap. That's what my entire family was wearing; they're huge Michigan supporters."
Colson was raised speaking Haitian Creole and only acquired English after migrating to Tennessee. He also grew up playing soccer and then switched to American football, playing linebacker at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Colson is a four-star recruit, a top 100 player in the country, the #10 overall linebacker, and Tennessee's second-best player in 2021. He chose to play collegiate football at Michigan over offers from LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Tennessee.
Colson met Michigan Wolverines football coach Jim Harbaugh during the Michigan football camp and was given a football scholarship. He enrolled at Michigan in 2021 and played seven games as a true freshman. He made 60 tackles (fourth on the team) and recorded his first career sack on November 13, 2021, in a 12-tackle performance against Penn State.
He was chosen as a Freshman All-American. As a sophomore in 2022, Colson started all 14 games and led the team with 101 tackles and two sacks. The coaches picked him as second-team All-Big Ten. Colson had a career-high 15 tackles in the Big Ten Championship Game victory over Purdue.
Colson started all 15 games as a junior in 2023, helping the Michigan Wolverines win the national title with a team-high 95 tackles. Both the coaches and the media selected Colson as second-team All-Big Ten. He also claimed the Lott IMPACT Trophy.
