He began his football journey at North Murray High School in Chatsworth, Georgia. A freshman standout, McConkey displayed exceptional versatility, playing across various positions like quarterback, running back, defensive back, punter, and return specialist. With a staggering 36 touchdowns and 3,051 yards as a senior, McConkey rightfully earned the title of offensive player of the year for the region, solidifying his status as a three-star recruit and committing to the University of Georgia in 2020 (via the official website of the University of Georgia ).

During his initial stint at Georgia, McConkey redshirted before emerging prominently in his redshirt freshman year.
