Michael Gallup is an American football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. The Cowboys selected him as the 81st pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. After spending six seasons with the Cowboys, he signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders in April 2024. However, he announced his retirement from the sport in July 2024, due to unspecific reasons. Over the course of six seasons with the Cowboys, he played in 86 games, starting 67 and recording 266 receptions for 3,744 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns.
Michael Gallup attended Monroe Area High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete, playing baseball, track and basketball as well. He started his football career at the high school, where he played wide receiver and running back. He enrolled at Butler Community College in 2014 but transferred to Colorado State University in 2016. He was named for the All-Mountain West twice in 2016 and 2017. He was named a Consensus All-American in 2017 after receiving 100 receptions for 1418 yards. Who is Michael Gallup’s mother?
Michael Gallup’s mother is Jenny Gallup. However, not much is known about her professional life. Michael was adopted when he was not even a year old, and there’s no information available about his biological parents. Dallas News reports that Gallup is one of his parents' six adopted children. Two of Jenny Gallup's own children, three from Africa, two from India, and Michael made up the family's total of eight children.
According to Dallas News, Gallup stated that his mother gave him up for adoption because she “wanted me to have a better life.” Although he has never met his actual mother, he revealed that he has received letters from her. Lydia and Andrew, Michael's siblings, were all born within two years of one another, and Lydia claims that their mother referred to them as "triplets," as per The Coloradoan. The Coloradoan further claims that Gallup was ten years old, when his parents got divorced. “He was very serious after my mom and dad got divorced, but then he grew into what he is now because of what happened,” said Lydia.
Unfortunately, the Cowboys revealed on November 20, 2018, that Andrew, Gallup's adoped brother, had taken his own life. According to 247 Sports, Gallup met his sister in the locker room and that is how he learned of his brother's passing. Afterwards, Gallup tweeted about his brother, stating, “I want to thank my teammates, the Cowboys family, friends & fans for their love and support. It means so much that y’all are here for me and my family during this time.” The Gallup family set up a memorial fund through Action International for Andrew, naming it the African Children's Scholarship Fund.
