During high school, he participated in volleyball, basketball, and football at Southern Regional High School, finishing his high school football career with 1,817 receiving yards on 103 receptions and 16 touchdown catches. In 2014, the three-star recruit chose Penn State University, graduating in 2017 and setting the record for the most receptions by a tight end in a single season in Penn State history, with 129 receptions for 1,481 yards (according to Sports Reference).
