Ryan Tannehill Contract

Last Modified Dec 14, 2023 10:13 GMT

Ryan Tannehill has followed a unique career trajectory. As a college football player at Texas A&M, he was suited up as a wide receiver up until his junior year, despite coming in as a quarterback. However, once he finally won the quarterbacking position, he put in some phenomenal showings. His first career QB start saw him break the school record for yards in a game. From there on, he became a full-time starter in his final collegiate year. His performance was outstanding as he compiled over 3,700 yards while maintaining a QB rating of 133.2.

Selected relatively high by the Miami Dolphins into the NFL, he was primarily a starter during his stint with Miami. However, in his 7-year tenure, his production was uninspired, with the final two seasons barely qualifying. In 2017, he did not play a single game and was limited throughout the 2018 season as well. As a result, a move to the Tennessee Titans was imminent.

Tannehill is currently the quarterback for the Tennessee Titans and has been since 2019, where he’s enjoyed a career renaissance of sorts. Joining midway through the year, he led the team to the AFC Championship Game, before leading the team to consecutive division titles the next two years. After a long career in the NFL, Tannehill has established himself as a solid, if unspectacular, man for the job. He was drafted in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins with the 8th overall pick. He initially signed a four-year rookie contract worth $12.7 million in 2012.

Before the completion of that contract, Ryan and the Dolphins would sign an extension worth $77 million over 4 years in 2015. That contract included $45 million in guaranteed money. Due to injury-laden seasons in 2017 and 2018, he was sent to the Titans as part of a trade where he would sign a new one-year prove-it deal worth $2,000,000. After a spectacular season that saw him go to the Pro Bowl, lead the NFL in passing yards, and win the Comeback Player of the Year Award, he would sign a long-term 4-year contract to remain in Tennessee.
