Bell was drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 61st overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. Bell's NFL career began with the New Orleans Saints in 2016. His rookie season finished with 16 games while recording 87 combined tackles (61 solo), four pass deflections, and a sack. In 2017, Pro Football Focus (PFF) gave Bell an overall grade of 68.7, ranking him 65th among all qualifying safeties. In 2023, Bell was signed by the Carolina Panthers, and started 13 games, recording 69 tackles and one interception.

The Tennesee native went to Chattanooga Central High School for his primary education before he transferred to Ridgeland High School. In 2013, Bell was selected to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-American game. Bell's collegiate career began with Ohio State College in 2013. In 2014, Bell played in all 15 games recording 92 tackles and six interceptions (according to Sports Reference). Bell's breakthrough season was in 2015 when he was named to First-team All-American and First-team All-Big Ten.
