The New York Giants selected him with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. McKinney made the top 10 list of safety released by ESPN in 2024, after having a stellar season in 2023. According to PFF, Xavier’s 87.8 overall grade in 2023 placed him 4th among all safeties. In 2020, McKinney’s rookie season had a slow start as he spent most of his time on IR due to a fractured foot and was only able to see playing time in 6 games.
