Adam Peaty: A Brief Biography
Adam Peaty is a British swimmer born on 28th December 1994. He is a native of the Uttoxeter town of Staffordshire in England. Adam specializes in Breaststroke and represents the United Kingdom and England in 100m Breaststroke.
Background:
Adam Peaty was born to Mark Peaty and Caroline Peaty. He was born and raised in Uttoxeter town in Staffordshire. Adam is the youngest of 4 siblings. He has two elder brothers, Richard and James, and an elder sister, Bethany.
Adam had an acute fear of water when he was young. He was reluctant to take a bath in the pool after his brother, James, scared him that sharks would come up through the plughole. At the age of 4, Adam prevailed over the fear of water after he took his first swimming lessons.
In 2004, Adam joined the Dove Swimming Club and 5 years later, he moved to the City of Derby swimming club, where he received his first professional training from Mel Marshal. Adam attended St. Josephs Catholic Primary School and completed his secondary education at Painsley Catholic College.
After completing school education, he joined Derby College, where he pursued a degree in Exercise Science. In 2017, Adam trained at National Loughborough Swimming Centre. He currently trains at London Roar.
Rise to Glory:
Adam Peaty received his career breakthrough in 2012 when he claimed the 100m Breaststroke title and a Silver medal in 200m Breaststroke at the British Junior Swimming Championships. That year, he competed at the European Junior Swimming Championships, where he finished 5th in 200m Breaststroke.
At the 2013 British Gas Swimming Championships, Adam won a Silver medal in 50m Breaststroke and a Bronze in 100m Breaststroke. The following year, he clinched his first national title in 50m Breaststroke and won two Silver medals in 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke.
Between 2013 and 2019, Adam Peaty had won 11 national titles in 100m Breaststroke (4), 50m Breaststroke (3), and 200m Breaststroke (1), and 25 international titles.
Major Achievements:
Adam Peaty made his senior international debut at the 2013 European Swimming Championships, where he set his personal best timings in 50m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, and 200m Breaststroke. In 2014, he won three Silver medals in 50m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, and 4x100m Medley at the World Swimming Championships.
At the European Aquatics Championships, Adam had bagged 12 titles with three each in 50m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, 4x100m Medley, and 4x100m Mixed Medley between 2014 and 2018. In 2014, he won two Gold medals in 100m Breaststroke and 4x100m Medley and a Silver in 50m Breaststroke at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Adam Peaty had won a Gold medal (2017) and Silver (2015) in 100m Breaststroke and a Silver (2015) and Bronze (2017) in 50m Breaststroke at the European Swimming Championships. In 2016, he made his Olympics at the Rio Olympics, where became Olympic Champion in 100m Breaststroke and won Silver in 4x100m Medley.
Between 2015 and 2019, Adam had won 8 World Aquatics titles in 50m Breaststroke (3), 100m Breaststroke (3), 4x100m Medley (1), and 4x100m Mixed Medley (1) at the World Aquatics Championships. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he defended his 100m Breaststroke title and won two Silver medals in 50m Breaststroke and 4x100m Medley.
In April 2021, Adam Peaty has qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via British Selection Trials and will compete in 100m Breaststroke as the defending Champion.
