Ryan Fitzgerald Murphy, born on 2nd July 1995, is an American competitive swimmer who mainly focuses on backstroke. He is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and was also the former world record holder in the men's 100-meter backstroke.
In the 2016 Summer Olympics, he managed to clinch the gold medal in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke. He won the 4×100-meter medley relay alongside the legends of swimming in the USA, Michael Phelps, Nathan Adrian, and Cody Miller while defeating Aaron Peirsol’s record.
Murphy was part of the 4×100-meter medley relay that competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics where he clinched a gold alongside Michael Andrew, Caeelb Dressel, and Zach Apple while setting a new world record. He also won a silver in the 200m backstroke event and a bronze in the 100m backstroke event.
