Brittney Sykes is a professional basketball player for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. At 5 foot 9 inches tall, Sykes was born in Newark, New Jersey, U.S. Sykes's basketball career began at University High School of Humanities in Newark, where she also played for a local club team, the Philly Belles which gave her initial professionalism. Her high school success earned her a spot in the 2012 McDonald's All-American game and a selection to the USA U-18 team. In 2012, she joined The Syracuse Orange women's basketball team for college basketball, where she participated in 138 games and averaged 13.4 points, 1.9 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game and became 3rd highest leading scorer in the history of the team. She also completed a college degree in communications and rhetorical studies from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.

In 2017, Sykes was chosen as the seventh overall pick by the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA draft. She quickly made her mark in her rookie season, earning a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team. In 2018, Brittney Sykes was named to the USA Basketball Women’s National Team pool and attended the February training camp at the University of South Carolina. Later she also participated in trials for the 2012 USA U18 and 2013 USA U19 National Teams. In 2024, Sykes was selected for the FIBA 3x3 Women’s AmeriCup Team and participated in the USA 3x3 National Team Development Camp in November, as per her Team USA profile. Playing for the Washington Mystics, Sykes averaged 12.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game in 18 games in the 2024 season.
