Kelsey Mitchell is a women's basketball player who plays for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA. She was born on 12 November 1995 in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. She began her basketball life at Princeton High School and then shifted to The Ohio State women's basketball team where she made her name and became the two-time winner of The Big Ten Conference Women's Basketball co-Player of the Year in 2015 and 2018. She also won the Big Ten Player of the Year trophy in 2017. After a well-decorated college year, she moved to professional life in the WNBA.
In 2018 Mitchell was selected 2nd overall by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA draft. In the debut season, she made the all-rookie team selection. She earned her back-to-back WNBA All-Star selections in 2023 and 2024. Outside of playing basketball, she is very vocal about social issues and for that, the WNBA recognized her with The Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award in 2023. In the 2024 season, she averaged 17.3 points, 1.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game as of August 24, 2024.

Cheryl Mitchell and Mark Mitchell are the parents of Kelsey Mitchell. Mark Mitchell was a former football player at Eastern Kentucky but later he became a basketball coach. He started his coaching life at the Cincinnati Public School then shifted to become assistant coach of the Ohio State women’s basketball team where both his daughters played college level. Mark passed away in March 2024 at 56 years old age.
Kelsey’s mother Cheryl was also a basketball player who played for Mississippi Valley State and then transferred to Eastern Kentucky where she was a star player with 260 rebounds in one single season during the 1988-89 season.
