Born on December 27, 1998, in Washington, D.C., Luka Garza is a backup center who signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He comes from a basketball family, as his father played college ball at the University of Idaho, and his mother played professionally in Europe.


As a four-star recruit out of high school, Garza committed to play college basketball for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He became one of only nine players to have their jersey retired and had a decorated four-year college career. He won the National Player of the Year award in 2021 and graduated as the college’s all-time leading scorer with 2,306 points.


The Detroit Pistons drafted Garza with the 52nd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. After just one season with the Pistons, Garza signed a two-way contract with the Timberwolves, which was converted to a standard contract in April 2024.
