Fred VanVleet was born on February 25, 1994, in Illinois to Fred Manning and Susan VanVleet. Fred Manning was killed in 1999, leaving VanVleet without a father at a young age. VanVleet’s stepdad is Joe Danforth. Joe Danforth worked with the police department, making drug busts and handling gang wars. However, Danforth always made time for his son, coaching him to be a great point guard. Danforth is known to have run thorough drills every dawn with a reluctant VanVleet. These efforts eventually paid off with VanVleet being a sought-after free agent at the moment.
Susan VanVleet has been a huge source of support for her son. More than his achievements on the court, Susan values her son's journey to achieve success in the NBA. Though both parents attended every game of VanVleet’s whenever possible, financial constraints often denied him their presence at his games.
