Donaven McCulley is a college football player for the Indiana Hoosiers football team, representing Indiana University. As of 2024, Donaven is currently in his Senior season with Indiana University, playing for its football team. He made his collegiate debut game versus Michigan State on 16th October 2021.

In his freshman season in 2021, Donaven appeared in six games with four starts, being one of the 12 true freshmen to appear in 2021. Prior to being a wide receiver, he played as a quarterback and even spent a season in that position for Indiana. However, he made the transition from quarterback to wide receiver during spring practice in 2022.

Operating his business for 15 years, Derick, a 1989 graduate of Lawrence North, has established a strong presence in the local community. Inside his shop, among other memorabilia, hangs a No. 80 Lawrence North jersey and football helmet, as well as a Lawrence North basketball jersey, showcasing his local pride.

In an interview with IndyStar, Derick talked about his kids and how he also used to put his three kids to work in the barbershop doing little things like cleaning the store or sweeping the floors and wiping the mirrors. Talking about Donaven, Derick recalls his son's nickname, "Muscles," due to his large stature even from a young age. Derick quote “We used to call him ‘Muscles.’ When he was born, he had these big knees. He was a big kid. We knew he was going to be the biggest in the family.”
