Riley Leonard played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as a quarterback, in the 2024 season. Born on September 13, 2002, Leonard attended Fairhope High School in Fairhope, Alabama, and finished his senior year with 1,900 passing and 500 rushing yards. He also recorded 25 touchdowns in his senior year. Besides football, Riley Leonard played basketball in high school and was invited to play on the campuses of St. Mary's, North Alabama, Samford, and Missouri State. He also received invitations to play college football from Nebraska, Syracuse, and Tulane, among other schools. Despite many opportunities, Leonard committed to Duke University, where he stayed for three seasons.

In 2024, he decided to transfer to Notre Dame University and played in 16 games that season. Throughout his college career, Leonard played in 43 games.
