Francisco Mauigoa is a college football linebacker, playing for the Miami Hurricanes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. Born in Ili'ili, American Samoa, he attended Tafuna High School in American Samoa before transferring to Aquinas High School in California for his junior year. During his senior season at Aquinas, he excelled as a dual-threat quarterback, throwing for 1,113 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 475 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 46 tackles, five of which were for a loss, and also snagged an interception. His performance earned him a three-star prospect rating from recruiting services, and he committed to play college football as a linebacker for the Washington State Cougars. Francisco Mauigoa began his collegiate journey at Washington State in 2021. In his freshman season, he recorded 17 tackles, including half a tackle for loss. He gained recognition during the 2022 season when he intercepted a pass against Oregon and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown. By the end of that season, Mauigoa had started 11 games, accumulating 60 tackles (5.5 for loss), 3.5 sacks, an interception, and three forced fumbles. His impressive performance led him to enter the NCAA transfer portal after the conclusion of the season.

In December 2022, Mauigoa transferred to the University of Miami to join the Hurricanes. His decision was influenced by Miami's strong football program and the opportunity to compete at a high level in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In his first season with Miami in 2023, he quickly established himself as a key player on defense. He started all 13 games and led the team with 82 tackles, including an impressive 18 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. His standout performances earned him second-team All-ACC honors. Mauigoa's impact was felt early in the season; he recorded five tackles in his debut against Miami (Ohio) and continued to perform consistently throughout the year. Notably, he had a breakout game against Georgia Tech where he recorded four tackles, including one interception and one-and-a-half tackles for loss.
