Born on January 1, 2002, in Jacksonville, Florida, Jeff Sims is an American football quarterback currently playing for the Arizona State Sun Devils. He has had a dynamic college football journey that includes stints at Georgia Tech and Nebraska before transferring to Arizona State in 2024.

Sims attended Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, where he excelled as a quarterback from 2016 to 2020. He gained recognition for his dual-threat capabilities, showcasing both passing and rushing skills. Initially aiming to play for the Miami Hurricanes, Sims shifted his focus to Florida State after the Hurricanes showed little interest. He committed to Florida State in February 2019 but rescinded that commitment shortly after the hiring of new head coach Mike Norvell. Instead, he signed with Georgia Tech, where he was ranked as the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by 247Sports.

Jeff Sims made an immediate impact at Georgia Tech, starting as a true freshman in 2020. He led the Yellow Jackets to a notable upset victory over Florida State in his debut, completing 23 of 34 passes for 277 yards while also rushing for 64 yards. Over his three seasons at Georgia Tech, he accumulated impressive statistics: 4,464 passing yards with 30 touchdowns and 23 interceptions, alongside 1,166 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. However, his career was marred by injuries that limited his appearances during his sophomore and junior years. Despite these setbacks, Sims demonstrated flashes of brilliance during his tenure at Georgia Tech.

In December 2022, Sims transferred to Nebraska, where he was named the starting quarterback for the 2023 season. Unfortunately, his time with the Cornhuskers was disappointing; he struggled with injuries and inconsistent performance, leading to a total of one touchdown against six interceptions. After a lackluster season at Nebraska, on May 1, 2024, Sims announced his transfer to Arizona State. At Sun Devils, he faced competition from high-profile quarterbacks, including Sam Leavitt. Although initially projected as a backup behind Leavitt, Sims found himself thrust into the starting role due to Leavitt's injury. In his first significant playing time for Arizona State against Cincinnati in October 2024, Sims completed 12 of 23 passes for 155 yards and added another 53 rushing yards on the ground.
