Xavier Nwankpa is a college football player for the Iowa Hawkeyes, as of 2024. He began his high school football career at the Southeast Polk High School where he accumulated 16 interceptions in his varsity years. Xavier Nwankpa recorded 20 tackles and three interceptions and posted the school’s top long jump at 20 feet, two inches as a freshman. In his Sophomore Year, he headed the Rams with 52.5 tackles and three interceptions and returned nine punts for 178 yards.

As a senior, Nwankpa was named the Adidas All-American and MaxPreps Iowa Player of the Year. Rated as a five-star recruit out of Southeast Polk High School, Nwankpa had offers from several Power 5 and Division 1 colleges including Alabama, Ohio State, Louisiana State, Clemson, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and USC. He turned down the nation’s top programs to play for Iowa to make his mark from a cultural standpoint. He joined the program in 2022 and saw action in all 13 games in his true freshman year, notching 12 tackles, one interception, and a touchdown. Last season, he started 12 games in safety and recorded 41 passes and two pass breakups as a sophomore. In 2024 as a junior, Nwankpa saw action in all 12 games at strong safety and recorded 37 total tackles on the season.
