Prithvi Shaw's father, Pankaj Shaw has played an integral role in the rise of his son. Pankaj lost his wife in the year 2003 when Prithvi was four years old. He worked day in and day out to ensure that his son makes a name for himself in the world of cricket.

Shut his business to focus on his son’s career
As mentioned ahead, Pankaj Shaw lost his wife early. After his wife’s death, Pankaj decided to shut his business so that he could devote maximum time towards Prithvi Shaw’s cricketing career. Pankaj had a business of flourishing garments, and he used to sell the garments in Surat and Baroda.
The father-son duo lived in Gaya, Bihar before a contract from AAP Entertainment helped them move to Maharashtra. Life was never easy for Pankaj but he worked really hard to ensure his son makes the country proud one day.

Learned how to bowl to give Prithvi Shaw maximum practice
Pankaj Shaw had shut off his business. So, he did not have enough money to hire a personal coach for Prithvi Shaw. The father-son duo survived on Pankaj’s savings for three years. Sponsorships and scholarships for furthering his cricketing knowledge helped Prithvi improve his game a lot.
However, to give his son the maximum batting practice, Pankaj Shaw decided to learn how to bowl. Pankaj worked hard to learn bowling and then bowled to Prithvi at Kalina’s Air India ground.

The journey from Virar to Bandra
Prithvi Shaw and his father lived in Virar. Pankaj would usually wake up before sunrise to make food for his son and then the duo would be off to Bandra in a local train. Shaw worked on his batting skills in Bandra. Soon, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Potnis provided a home to the Shaws in Vakola which was in close proximity to the training ground in Bandra.

Prithvi Shaw credits his father for his success
In his brief career, Prithvi Shaw has achieved various landmarks. His biggest achievement was leading the Indian team to the U-19 World Cup trophy in 2018. Shaw has always credited his father for his success. In one of his tweets, Shaw wrote that he had received the greatest gift from his father and that was his belief.
