Leishman was born in Victoria's Warrnambool. He enjoyed a very fruitful amateur career in Australia, taking home numerous junior tournament victories. They triumphed over Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel in a playoff. In the men's competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were held in July–August 2021, Leishman participated and placed 51st.
