Right then, this brings us to the end of our coverage for the third match of IPL 18. The El Clasico of IPL lived up to its expectations with the Yellow Army coming out triumphant in their first match. This is a familiar territory for the Mumbai Indians as they haven't won their first game in the IPL since 2012. Hardik Pandya will be back for the next game and that will be a massive boost for the five time champions. For the Super Kings, they will again want to make Chepauk their fortress and ensure that the spin trio can weave their magic in the middle overs. The IPL carnival continues and it will the Delhi Capitals who will square off against the Lucknow Super Giants in tomorrow's clash. Noor Ahmad is the Player of the Match, here is what he has to say: Well it feels great to play around the world but it feels special to play in the IPL. Very happy for the contribution today. Most of my focus was bowling in the right areas and let the pitch do the rest. The Surya wicket was special. The stumping from Mahi bhai was just out of this world. It feels great to have some one like him behind the stumps. It's a big bonus for me.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings captain): Right after I got out, I was walking. There are games like that when 40 is required and it gets very close. Nice to be on the winning side. That was the requirement for the team. Rahul can go out there and play his aggressive game at the top. I can play both gear. They were right on point. We were really excited having the three spinners bowling in tandem at Chepauk. Yes definitely, Khaleel has been doing well in the last two three years. Noor is an X factor, good to have Ash bhai as well. I mean MS is still the same. He is fitter than previous here and has smashed the biggest sixes in practice. He don't practice too much of keeping to be honest.

Rachin Ravindra: Mumbai made it really difficult for us, they changed the pace nicely and mixed their lengths. Choked us in the middle overs and made it difficult for us. The Chepauk wicket is definitely tricky at times, you don't know what to expect. Rutu(raj) is amazing, struck at 200 without really trying. Great batsmanship. The pitch was definitely holding a fraction, wasn't turning a mile but their lengths made it difficult to score runs.

Suryakumar Yadav [Mumbai Indians captain]: Absolutely, we were 15-20 runs short. But the fight boys showed is commendable. [On Vignesh Puthur] Amazing. MI is know for that. The scouts, they do this 10 months all round the year. He is a product of that. He has a bright future. I kept his one over. The thought was that, if the game is a little far, we have a chance. There wasn't any dew, it was a little sticky. 15-20 runs, and it would have been a good fight.

The Chennai Super Kings had to work hard during the run chase but in the end, they ended up winning by 4 wickets and with deliveries five to spare. Mumbai Indians and their first match losses seems never-ending to be honest as they haven't won their first game since 2012 and it continued in the same manner.

Ruturaj Gaikwad sent in Rahul Tripathi to open the innings along with Rachin Ravindra but the ploy didn't work. A well-directed short delivery from Deepak Chahar sent Tripathi back in the hut. Ruturaj Gaikwad came in next and literally turned the game within a few overs.

It looked like Ruturaj was batting on a different surface altogether as some of the shots he played oozed sheer class and confidence. He batted like a champion and took the game away from MI. He shared a 67-run stand with Ravindra, scoring 53 himself. His knock was studded with 6 fours and 3 sixes before being dismissed by the debutant Vignesh Puthur.

He bagged two more, deceiving Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda with flighted deliveries, tempting them to go for the big shots. He kept MI in the game. Will Jacks then bagged the wicket of Sam Curran but the two Ravindra’s- Jadeja and Rachin ensured stability prevailed as the duo took CSK within touching distance of the victory target.

Rachin smashed two decisive sixes of Vignesh Puthur in the 18th over which was the final nail in the coffin. The match did drag to the final over but it was always CSK’s game. Ravindra then finished off the game with a massive six of Mitchell Santner off the first delivery of the final over. 11:05 PM IST: Rachin Ravindra finishes it off in style against his captain from the national team. Used the depth of the crease and pumped it over the midwicket fence. The target of 156 was never going to be enough but the MI bowlers made a good account of themselves especially after Ruturaj Gaikwad's carnage ended. They took the game to the final over but it was always going to be a tall order. Yet again, Mumbai Indians lose their first game of a season. They haven't won their first game since 2012 and the trend continues.
