Born and raised in Flint, Michigan Claressa Shields is a mixed martial artist and a boxer. Currently, Shields is signed to the MMA organisation, PFA. However, she is most known for her time as a boxer. Her father introduced her to boxing by using Laila Ali as an inspiration. In an episode of The Players Tribune, T-Rex got all teary-eyed while paying tribute to her grandmother. Her grandmother was one of her biggest supporters -

“So crazy you would say this, she is my favorite person in the world. But I know she’d(her grandmother) be so proud of me. She’s my biggest fan. She loved that I… she loved how mean I was. She never judged me. My grandma was my number one fan. I know. She looked down on me. She’s super happy. Super.”

In boxing, Shields has competed at three different weight classes - light middleweight, middleweight and super middleweight. She has won a world championship in all those classes. In March 2021, after defeating Marie-Eve Dicaire, she became the only boxer (male or female) in history to win all 4 (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO) titles in two different weight classes. Despite her move to MMA, ringtv has still listed her as 2nd in the pound for pound list.

After signing with PFA in November 2020, Shields will finally make her MMA debut on June 10, 2021, at PFL 4 against Brittney Elkin.
