Pereira and Adesanya's rematch for the UFC Middleweight Championship occurred in Adesanya's most recent fight in April 2023 at UFC 287. Adesanya KO'd Pereira in the second round, sealing the victory and the championship. For his victory, he received the Performance of the Night award.

Sean Strickland beat Adesanya at UFC 293 on September 10, 2023, via a unanimous decision to become the new UFC Middleweight champion.
