He began his officiating career in 2001, as a side judge and officiated many high school and small college-level games. In the 2004 season, Vinovich was promoted to the referee. As the year went by Vinovich officiated in many big games and he also was the referee for the 2018 NFC Championship Game. In 2020, he was chosen to be the referee of Super Bowl LIV. In 2022, he was named the alternate referee for Super Bowl LVI. Vinovich by his hard work has made himself into one the best referees in the game today.

He was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1960. As of now, he is 62 years old. Bill Vinovich is married to Jeanette Vinovich. The Couple have now been married for 30 years and since then have been blessed with a son and a daughter. The name of the son is William IV and the name of the daughter is Shawna Vinovich. The Vinovich's are a loving and supportive family.
