Clyde Edwards-Helaire

A Baton Rouge native, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire committed to Louisiana State University, which had previously seen the likes of Joe Burrow and Shaquille O’Neal make a mark on the sporting world. After barely featuring in the offense in his freshman season and playing on special teams, he became a prominent member of the offense in his second year.

After finishing second in the team in total rushing yards, he took over the starting role in his junior season. He would record over 1,400 yards as a rusher, tied for third-most in LSU history. It earned him a first-team All-SEC selection as well as a semifinalist spot for the Doak Walker Award. He was a vital part of the team during the playoffs, culminating with a 110 rushing yard game in the National Championship Game that earned LSU the CFP national championship.

Entering the NFL Draft in 2020, he made his way over to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in the one area they were lacking on offense. He became the youngest rookie to record over 130 yards and a touchdown on his debut. A phenomenal season followed that saw him total over 800 rushing yards despite missing a portion of the season towards the end.

An injury-riddled third season saw a drop in production, finishing with a little over 500 yards. However, that would start a growing trend that eventually led to him losing the starting role to seventh-round rookie Isiah Pacheco. The 2023 season has seen him be at his healthiest, although he now functions in a backup role behind Pacheco.
