He began playing high school football at Britton-Hecla High School in Britton, South Dakota along with soccer and basketball. After completing high school, Goedert committed to playing college football at South Dakota State University, where he played from 2013 to 2017. He secured a position in the first-team All-MVFC consecutively from 2015 to 2017 and concluded his collegiate career with over 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns.

After a decorated collegiate career, he was selected as the 49th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Eagles. Throughout his NFL career, he has consistently remained with the same team, contributing to its success. Following the 2022 regular season, Goedert played in the Super Bowl LVII but unfortunately lost 38-35 to the Chiefs, despite performing well with six catches for 60 yards.
