How much is Gardner Minshew's Contract?

Last Modified Mar 14, 2024 05:18 GMT

Whether it be at the collegiate or at the professional level, Gardner Minshew is a well-traveled player in the league. So far, he’s been a member of 3 different college programs and his tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders will be his fourth team in the NFL. However, it hasn’t been for a lack of trying. Whether it be at the collegiate tenure, Combine, or the games themselves, Minshew continues to impress. Slowly, he is establishing himself as a decent quarterback in the NFL.

But, his winding career has been far more than just his latest arch. While choosing colleges, some terrible luck befell him. His first two choices in Akron and Alabama at Birmingham didn’t pan out, with the recruiter or recruitment system changing their commitments. Later, he would choose to represent Troy, but move to Northwest Mississippi before ever suiting up for the program. He would liken it to a lack of fit and playing time due to starting Trojans quarterback, Brandon Silvers.

After a strong season that ended with an NJCAA National Football Championship as well NJCAA All-American selection, Minshew signed a grant-in-aid with East Carolina. After two less-than-stellar seasons with the program, Minshew would look for another change in his final eligible year. This time around, he made his way over to Washington State, where he enjoyed his best season to date without a doubt.

For Washington State, he led the team to an 11-2 record with outstanding passing numbers, totaling 4,776 yards for the year. En route to that performance, he would lead the team to the Alamo Bowl, even winning the Bowl MVP with a record-setting performance with 35 completions. Further, he broke the single-season passing record in school and Pac-12 history. For his remarkable run, he earned the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Aram Award, and was a member of the All-Pac-12 First Team. In the race for the Heisman Trophy, he would end up 5th on the list.

Due to limited production in his first three years, along with changing schools, teams weren’t super high on Minshew. As a result, he fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, a far cry from his final collegiate year production.

After taking over as the starter midway through his rookie season, Minshew set the Jaguars record for most passing touchdowns by a rookie. However, repeated injuries the next year were a huge setback that made him a backup. Since then, he’s occupied the same role for the Philadelphia Eagles. With somewhat of a career resurrection with the Indianapolis Colts, as he went 7-6 in 13 games in 2023, Minshew now finds himself on a two-year deal with the Raiders.

Having entered the league in 2019, Minshew has yet to stamp his place for any franchise. Various factors have prevented him from having that breakthrough year and leading a team all the way to the postseason.
