Penei Sewell is an American Samoan football offensive tackle for the Detroit Lions as of the 2024 NFL season. The Lions selected him with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. Sewell went to Desert High School. His collegiate career at Oregon won him the Outland and Morris trophies. In 2018, Sewell made his Ducks debut as a freshman, starting seven games but sitting out six because of an ankle issue. In 2019, he made a comeback and took home the Morris and Outland Trophies. He shared the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year honor with Tua Tagovailoa. Because of COVID-19, Sewell chose to forego the 2020 season and entered the 2021 NFL draft.

Sewell signed a 4-year rookie deal for $24.1 million. As a rookie, Sewell played in 16 games and was selected to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team for 2021. In 2022, he started every game. In 2023, he was selected as an alternate for the Pro Bowl. In April 2024, he agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract deal. As of Week 9, 2024, he has played in 58 games and started all 58 of them.
