Sean Michael McDermott is an American football head coach for the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. He began his career in the NFL as a scouting administrative coordinator for the Eagles in 1999 before entering the coaching field. As a head coach since 2017, McDermott has had four consecutive first finishes in AFC East (2019-23) and has never been placed below the third position in the AFC East region. Under his coaching tenure, the Bills have appeared in one Championship and three divisional games, as of October2024.
McDermott was born in Omaha Nebraska on March 21, 1974. When McDermott was in second grade, his family moved to Lansdale after previously residing in Paoli and West Chester. McDermott is also a two-time national wrestling champion from his high school days. Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2010)
After being a graduate assistant in his college, Sean Dermott was recruited by the Philadelphia Eagles as a scouting administrative coordinator in 1999. After serving around in the position for two years, the Eagles promoted McDermott to be an assistant under the head coach Andy Reid in 2001. Since then, he played several roles as the quality control coach and assistant until 2007.
His keen eye for defence was recognised, as he replaced Steve Spagnuolo as defensive backs coach in 2007. In 2009, as he was named as the Defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. McDermott served in the position for two years, before departing from the Eagles after a decade-long career.
