Thomas James Hockenson is an American football tight end for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. The Detroit Lions drafted Hockesnon as their 8th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Hockenson attended Chariton High School, where he began his football career. As a senior in high school, he was named Elite All-State first team due to his impressive performances. Hockenson’s collegiate career began with the University of Iowa in 2016. In 2016, he redshirted as a true freshman.

As a sophomore in 2017, Hockenson recorded 24 receptions for 320 yards and three touchdowns. Against Ohio State, he recorded five receptions for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Hockenson started as a tight end in the 27-20 Pinstripe Bowl win over Boston College, recording one reception for nine yards. Hockenson was named Academic All-Big Ten and honorable mention Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team by BTN.com the same year. As a junior in 2018, he started at tight end in a 38-14 win over Northern Iowa, as the offense gained 545 yards total offense. Hockenson recorded six touchdowns and six receptions in that season as a junior. He was named first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and USA Today and recipient of the 2018 John Mackey Award as the top tight end in the nation.
