21 year old offensive tackle, Broderick Jones made waves in this year’s NFL draft. The highly rated prospect was selected overall 14 in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Born in Lithonia, Georgia, the 6 foot 5 inch tackle is ranked in the top 5 offensive linemen in this draft class. Currently, Broderick was a Redshirt Sophomore at Georgia University where he intends to study Sport Management.
Recently on the Rich Eisen show, Jones stated that he started playing football at a very early age. He was probably around 7-8 years old at the time he first started playing. In his early days, he played many different positions such as running back, full back, wide receiver and tight end. When asked which position he enjoys the most, Jones was quick to respond that nothing can beat tackle. For Broderick, restraining the defenders and dominating over them is what gets him excited.
The tall tackle with quick feet also has power behind him. He has demonstrated his capacity to dominate defenders and bring to the ground. Jones’ possesses excellent lateral movement as well permitting him to protect both the inside and outside lanes to the quarterback. NFL scouts and experts have found a few flaws that need to be corrected while playing at the highest level. Some of them can be attributed to the fact that he has only started 19 games and with more practice things should work out. Most worrisome is that his punches are not consistent and fast enough. He tends to expose his chest to defenders ending up with an imbalanced stance.
Even though the tall O-lineman is not a finished product, his athletic and physical skills demonstrate that he can become a good starter for many years to come. As per the scouting reports, Jones should be able to take up the starting role within the next couple of years.

Broderick Jones was born on 16 May 2001. He was born to Roosevelt Dotson and Tamara Jones. For the most part of his life, Broderick has been raised by his mother. At the very young age of 6 years old, Broderick’s father passed away after a long illness. When speaking about the incident, Broderick says there isn’t too much he can say as he never got to know his father as much as he would have liked.
As for his mother, Tamara Jones, she has been his biggest support. She is the one who raised him and his siblings. She refers to Broderick as her “blessing” baby. At that time she didn’t want to have another baby as she already had 3 kids. However, after having Broderick she decided that he would be the last one. Tamara Jones has been very happy with the way the Georgia Bulldogs have treated her and her son and is happy that her son thinks of the University as his family.

I really don’t do too much outside of football and basketball.” He continues to share his thoughts on the importance his elder siblings have had on him. “But I have an older brother that I look up to, and older sisters. So, like, they always helped me out. We stayed together and made a bond together. That’s why family’s such a big part of my life, because they’ve always held me together.”
