Zach Charbonnet is an American football player who used to play for the UCLA Bruins. Zach plays as a running back and started his college career with the Michigan Wolverines. Zach Charbonnet was born in Bellflower, California, and later grew up in Camarillo, California.
The running back was one of the top prospects in the country as a high school football player. He attended Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, California. He tallied 4,741 rushing yards and 62 total touchdowns as a high school player. He had 2,049 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior. After being actively pursued by many top colleges, Zach decided to commit to the University of Michigan.
Charbonnet played two seasons with the Michigan Wolverines, totaling 850 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in 18 games. In January 2021, Charbonnet announced his intention to transfer to the University of California, Los Angeles. He played a total of 22 games for UCLA and totaled 2496 passing yards along with 27 touchdowns. The Football Writers Association of America selected the first-team All-American as an All-purpose specialist. With 168 all-purpose yards per game, he was the national leader. His 1,680 total all-purpose yards ranked ninth all-time in UCLA history for a single season. Charbonnet forewent his final year of eligibility, which had been given by the NCAA to any players on a team during the 2020 season who had been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, and declared for the 2023 NFL Draft instead.

Zach Charbonnet comes from a mixed family background. He was born to Seda Hall and Mark Charbonnet on January 8, 2001. Seda is part Cambodian, French, and Chinese. She lived in Paris till she was 16 and immigrated to the USA from France and settled there. Charbonnet’s father Mark is an African American. Zach has a Louisiana Creole descent from his father.
Zach Charbonnet was raised by his mother Seda Hall and step-father Ben Hall, who joined the family when Zach was still 2 years old. Charbonnet calls his stepfather “pops” because the word ‘step’ has a negative connotation for him. He used to play as an offensive tackle at Louisville in the 1990s
Seda Hall imparted traditions of respect and kindness to Zach and her other children. She did not want him to play football as a kid due to the brutality of it but eventually gave it once he reached the seventh grade.

Zach is one of five of Seda Hall’s children. Out of his siblings, he is very close to one of his sisters, Bella Hall. Bella was born with Williams syndrome and shares a very special bond with her brother Zach. Zach Charbonnet has another sister named Athena, who is also a massive fan of her brother and is known to practice gymnastics.
